Ryan Burns Me

I have a lot of websites. One problem I often face is when commenting on people’s blog, what website do I link to? Do I send them to Design Simple because I think they might be interested in hiring me? Do I send them to Going to Seminary because they are seminary student? Do I send them to my Twitter or Facebook account because they are socially connected? On top of that, linking to multiple sites simply waters down my SEO juice for my name, Ryan Burns.

Well, inspired by John Saddington, I decided to setup an online business card. As with all websites, the domain name was difficult to decide on. Many of the cool URLs for Ryan Burns were already taken, except the .ME extension. I went back and forth on .ME. My two issues were that .ME isn’t that popular and second it is expensive. A .ME will set you back about $50 for 2 years.

In the end, I decided that having a my name, Ryan Burns, in the URL was key since I was going to be using “Ryan Burns” as the keyword text for links when I comment on blogs. It simply came down to SEO. So, I dropped the coin and launched http://ryanburns.me. Now, this is the place that I send everyone and they can decided how they want to connect with me.
